the Holy Gospel + of our Lord Jesus Christ + according to St John+

Later on, Jesus showed himself again to the disciples. It was by the Sea of Tiberius, and it happened like this: Simon Peter, Thomas called the twin, Nathanael from Cana in Galilee, the sons of Zebedee and two more of his disciples were together. Simon Peter said, ‘I’m going fishing’. They replied, ‘We’ll come with you’.  They went out and got into the boat but caught nothing that night.

Sea of Tiberius

It was light by now and there stood Jesus on the shore, though the disciples did not realize it was Jesus. Jesus called out, ‘Have you caught anything, friends?’ And when they answered, ‘No’ , he said, ‘Throw the net out to starboard and you’ll find something’. So they dropped the net , and there were so many fish that they could not haul it in. The disciple Jesus loved said to Peter , ‘It is the Lord’. At these words, Simon Peter, who had practically nothing on, wrapped his cloak round him and jumped in the water. The other disciples came on in the boat, towing the net and the fish; they were only about a hundred yards from land.

As soon as they came ashore they saw that there was some bread there, and a charcoal fire with fish cooking on it.

Jesus said, 'Bring some of the fish you have just caught'.

Simon Peter went aboard and dragged the net to the shore, full of big fish, one hundred and fifty-three of them; and in spite of there being so many the net was not broken.

Jesus said to them, ‘Come and have breakfast’.

St Thomas Sunday divine mercy sunday

the Holy Gospel + of our Lord Jesus Christ + according to St John +

Then the same day at evening, being the first day of the week, when the doors were shut where the disciples were assembled for fear of the Jews, came Jesus and stood in the midst, and saith unto them, Peace be unto you.

20And when he had so said, he shewed unto them his hands and his side. Then were the disciples glad, when they saw the LORD.

21Then said Jesus to them again, Peace be unto you: as my Father hath sent me, even so send I you.

22And when he had said this, he breathed on them, and saith unto them, Receive ye the Holy Ghost:

23Whose soever sins ye remit, they are remitted unto them; and whose soever sins ye retain, they are retained.

24But Thomas, one of the twelve, called Didymus, was not with them when Jesus came.

25The other disciples therefore said unto him, We have seen the LORD. But he said unto them, Except I shall see in his hands the print of the nails, and put my finger into the print of the nails, and thrust my hand into his side, I will not believe.

26And after eight days again his disciples were within, and Thomas with them: then came Jesus, the doors being shut, and stood in the midst, and said, Peace be unto you.

27Then saith he to Thomas, Reach hither thy finger, and behold my hands; and reach hither thy hand, and thrust it into my side: and be not faithless, but believing.

28And Thomas answered and said unto him, My LORD and my God.

29Jesus saith unto him, Thomas, because thou hast seen me, thou hast believed: blessed are they that have not seen, and yet have believed.
